IKEA Bookshelf Update

I love IKEA products.  We haven't purchased much furniture but what we have we have really enjoyed.  We have two Kilby bookshelf that have been with us for a while and surprisingly have never had a single thing done to them.  They are a light wood color with a grey backing, boring right?  So, they got a little paint and a little paper.  I love them now.

The color is Sherwin Williams Turkish Coffee.  The paper is from Target, I think from their Christmas section.

Candy Stripe Desk

I love this desk.  It gave me all kinds of problems along the way but in the end it turned out great.  It is super heavy and made entirely of MDF.  I distressed it on the edges to give it more of the look of wood.  I like to stain any tops or drawers that are wood because they look amazing and are easier to care for than a painted surface.  Alas, I couldn't stain any large surfaces on this.  This desk is going in the same room as the Beautiful Blue Dresser I did in the summer.  There is still one more piece to go in the collection and then the room will be complete.

The color is Sherwin Williams Begonia.  The white is Rustoleum Spray Paint in Heirloom White.  I sealed the piece with Minwax Fast Drying Poly and Wipe on Poly.  I am finally out of Fast Dry Poly so I can move onto something else.  I did not like working with that product!!

Black Suede Side Table

This piece is for family! Last month, we received a bunch of free pieces and we have been having fun redoing all of them.  They all needed work.  This one was probably one of the least scratched up pieces but I still sanded down a lot of it.  This piece has great lines and would have looked great in a funky bright color but it has a destined spot that needed it to be a beautiful sleek black.

The top is stain with Minwax Ebony.  The body is painted in Behr Black Suede.  I lightly distressed the piece and then covered the piece with Ebony stain.  The drawer is painted with Sherwin Williams Nifty Turquoise.  I finished the piece with Minwax Wipe-On Poly.

About Me

My photo
Growing up we never realized that we could make or change our furniture. Now that we are old and grown..ha..we realized that you can do anything you want to do. We like finding an old battered piece of furniture and seeing what we can make of it. We find joy in the journey and love seeing our pieces go to someone who loves them. Our house is slowly changing to whatever we want it to be and we are loving seeing the transformation.
