Midnight Blue

Jesse picked up this three drawer for free a while back and I painted it to match our dresser.  I thought I would love to have matching furniture but turns out it just wasn't right.  I also believe pieces don't look good in just any color and this did not look good in Venus Teal.  The other day I came across this blog post from The Chronicles of Home.  The furniture in this room were different colors and I loved it, so that is what I did.  This guy got a midnight blue makeover and now looks his best.

The color is a mix of Behr Royal Blue and Behr Black Suede.  The top is stained with Minwax Jacobean around the edges.  The top wasn't wood so I mixed Behr Revival Mahogany and Behr Black Suede and gave it a quick swipe.  The piece is sealed with Minwax Wipe-On Poly.

Charcoal Gray Chest of Drawers

The Blue Beauty got a makeover...

I have this new love of dark charcoal gray.  It is the color I want to paint everything at the moment.  I painted two bookcases and one dresser.  I think one more piece and then the fetish with be over.  I love how this turned out.  The drawers were sanded down and stained.  I used wood shims in the top to create a shelf, I just need some nice big baskets to fill in the space and it would be perfect.

The color is an oops paint that I mixed with a little black to get the color I was looking for.  The drawers and top are stained with Minwax Jacobean.  Everything is sealed with Minwax Wipe-On Poly in Satin.

Beautiful Blue

A little while back a friend of mine bought a bedroom set that we planned on refinishing.  About a week after we go it into the garage the rain hit.  Generally this would be fine except it needed a good sanding and this happens outside.  So it sat there for quite a while and we have still only completed one piece out of the three but one day soon it will be done..I hope.  She picked  a wonderful blue for the pieces and also a coral that we plan on painting the desk and possibly the inside of the drawers.  The original plan was to stain the top but we discovered the top was made of really thick MDF so that plan died.  I think it turned out great, I love the handles with the blue.

Gray Farmhouse Headboard

So a long while back we built this great farmhouse bed for Zachie and then decided it was too big for the shared bedroom my little ones have.  So it sat unfinished for the longest time.  One day I was out of projects and decided it was time to get that bed done.  We sanded the wood and made it nice and smooth but then couldn't decide what color to paint it.  A month or so later it is painted and perfect. We used the same fabric weave technique from the Gray Dresser.

The colors are three different shades of gray, all oops paint from Home Depot.  The top is finished with Minwax Wipe-On Poly.

Farmhouse Bed

We decided we should try our hand at building.  It was fun, not hard at all and we got exactly what we wanted.  The price was great too!!  We based our plans off of Ana White's Farmhouse Bed but altered it a little here and there.

The color is Behr Bleached Linen.  I used a Minwax Stain Marker in Dark Walnut to fill in the distressed areas.

About Me

My photo
Growing up we never realized that we could make or change our furniture. Now that we are old and grown..ha..we realized that you can do anything you want to do. We like finding an old battered piece of furniture and seeing what we can make of it. We find joy in the journey and love seeing our pieces go to someone who loves them. Our house is slowly changing to whatever we want it to be and we are loving seeing the transformation.
