Sunburst Buffet

I have been looking for something with cupboards for our entry way so the kids can keep all their shoes close to the door.  I love this piece but it is a bit too big for the entry way.  It was in really good condition when we bought it which made my job a lot easier.  I used a walnut on the wood areas that would be showing, to give it a new shine and fill in some of those scratches, it worked perfectly.  I fell in love with this color, Nifty Turquoise.  It is one of those colors that doesn't photograph well though.  In the pictures the buffet looks very blue when really it has a ton of green but I can't get that to show up.

The color is Sherwin Williams Nifty Turquoise.  The piece is finished with Fast Drying Polyurethane.

Perfect Kids Desk

Our kids have been head over heals for desks lately.  So we picked this one up and got it ready lickety split.  A quick sand and stain to the top and a fresh coat of paint to the body and it is ready to use.  The color is deeper in person but I couldn't capture it with our camera.

The color is a mix of Behr Happy Camper and Sherwin Williams Gulf Stream.  In these colors Behr is a but thick and Sherwin Williams is a thinner paint, mixing them together made the viscosity perfect.  The top is stained with Minwax English Chestnut.  Everything is sealed with Minwax Fast Drying Polyurethane.

Dream Dresser Makeover

We did some furniture swapping around our home and our dream dresser ended up in the living room.  Well, teal was not the right color for that room so to the garage he went to get a makeover.  We striped the paint and sanded the top.  I think this is the best he has ever looked.

The color is Sherwin Williams Westhighland White.  The drawers and top are stained with Minwax English Chestnut.  Everything is sealed with Minwax Fast Drying Polyurethane.

Secretary Desk

For some reason I have had this need for a secretary desk.  I cannot remember when this started but it hasn't gone away.  So we sold our coral desk and found this beauty on craigslist. It took me a while to figure out the color and the stripes but she is finished and I absolutely love her!!!  Now I just need to find a chair and my life will be complete.

The base color is Sherwin Williams Begonia but it wasn't quite right so I added about half a cup of deep red paint.  The stripes are all Behr paint.  The green and gray are oops paint, the pink is Poetic Princess, and the cream is Creme Brulee.  I lightly distressed and added English Chestnut Stain.  The hardware is sprayed with Painter's Touch . The piece is sealed with Fast Drying Polyurethane.

Pottery Barn Inspired Dresser

I was looking through the pottery barn catalog one day and thought the colors they use were great.  I then remembered that Sherwin Williams has a great list of all the colors that pottery barn uses so off I went to pick out some paint.  I had a few projects in the works so I picked a few colors.  This one features two of them.

The color of the body is Sherwin Williams Shady Blue and the top is Turkish Coffee.  The top was made into chalkboard paint so that we can write fun things on our way in or out. The body is sealed with Fast Drying Polyurethane.

Midnight Blue

Jesse picked up this three drawer for free a while back and I painted it to match our dresser.  I thought I would love to have matching furniture but turns out it just wasn't right.  I also believe pieces don't look good in just any color and this did not look good in Venus Teal.  The other day I came across this blog post from The Chronicles of Home.  The furniture in this room were different colors and I loved it, so that is what I did.  This guy got a midnight blue makeover and now looks his best.

The color is a mix of Behr Royal Blue and Behr Black Suede.  The top is stained with Minwax Jacobean around the edges.  The top wasn't wood so I mixed Behr Revival Mahogany and Behr Black Suede and gave it a quick swipe.  The piece is sealed with Minwax Wipe-On Poly.

Charcoal Gray Chest of Drawers

The Blue Beauty got a makeover...

I have this new love of dark charcoal gray.  It is the color I want to paint everything at the moment.  I painted two bookcases and one dresser.  I think one more piece and then the fetish with be over.  I love how this turned out.  The drawers were sanded down and stained.  I used wood shims in the top to create a shelf, I just need some nice big baskets to fill in the space and it would be perfect.

The color is an oops paint that I mixed with a little black to get the color I was looking for.  The drawers and top are stained with Minwax Jacobean.  Everything is sealed with Minwax Wipe-On Poly in Satin.

About Me

My photo
Growing up we never realized that we could make or change our furniture. Now that we are old and grown..ha..we realized that you can do anything you want to do. We like finding an old battered piece of furniture and seeing what we can make of it. We find joy in the journey and love seeing our pieces go to someone who loves them. Our house is slowly changing to whatever we want it to be and we are loving seeing the transformation.
