Cream Desk Reincarnated

This is the matching desk to Olivia's new dresser.  I missed the beautiful cream color of the first desk I every refinished, so I bought a sample and went to work.  There is something so elegant and timeless about cream, it is definitely one of my favorites.

The body is painted with Behr Creme Brulee and sealed with Minwax Finishing Paste.  The top is stained with a mix of Minwax Early American and Jacobean.  It is sealed with Rustoleum Clear Enamel.

Oak Desk Redo

So we moved and it seemed all our furniture needed an update, at least in my mind.  This midnight blue beauty just didn't work anywhere but with a new coat of paint it found a new home.

The color is Valspar Emerald, but compared to most emerald it is very subdued.  It is sealed with Minwax Finishing Paste.

A Dresser For A Two Year Old Princess

I thought it was time to update Sissy's bedroom, now that she has her own. We sold her princess dresser and found a great set on craigslist.  I have three more pieces to get done but this is the first and it is wonderful.  I replaced the hardware and put knobs on the top drawers.

The top is stained with a mix of Minwax Jacobean and English Chestnut.  It is sealed with Rustoleum Clear Enamel.  The body is painted with Behr Dragon Fruit and sealed with Minwax Dark Finishing Paste.

Race Car Dresser, Again?

I loved the first race car dresser I did and really wanted to do that again for Zachie's new room.  We picked this dresser up in seaside for free and it has been a fun dresser to have around.  It is an incredibly funky shape but works perfectly.

The dresser is stained with a mix of Minwax Jacobean and English Chestnut, it is sealed with Rustoleum Clear Enamel.  The dresser is painted with Behr Bleached Linen, Award Blue, and Roasted Red Pepper.  It is sealed with Minwax Finishing Paste.

Little Girl Cupboard

I loved this from the very moment I saw the ad on craigslist.  It was beat up and had some hotel like tile going on on top and on the door but I knew it would be perfect for Miss Sissy Sue.  She absolutely loves it, it is better than a doll house. She stores all kinds of things and in there, the perfect piece of furniture for a two year old hoarder.

The color is an oops paint.  The inside is painted with Behr Poetic Princess.  The pattern is some scrapbook paper I had.  I cut out some of the little girls and glued them down in various places.

Some Fun Signs Around the House

I have been in a sign making mood lately.  I haven't been doing a lot of furniture, mainly because I am low on things to refinish, but that has changed and I will have plenty to do the next few weeks.  In the mean time I have been making some fun art and sign for our home.  So here goes:

I painted a piece of wood, distressed and stained.  Then stenciled the words and use frog tape for the lines.   I finished with another round of distressing.

These were two old cork boards that mismatched.  I covered them in fabric, stapling in the back, then used push pins from the dollar tree around the edges.

I drew our family and framed it, easy peasy!

I painted a wood plaque from Michael's.  Used a Cricut machine to cut the letters then used glue podge to seal everything down.
(Glue Podge: Elmer's glue + Water)

Painted a canvas.  Used a Cricut machine to cut out the words in white Vinyl.  Placed the letters and then sealed with Glue Podge (because some of them just would not stay down).

Fun pinwheels made from scrapbook paper and hot glue with a few added embellishments.  Great tutorial at Sawdust and Embryos.

Paper feather wreath made from scrapbook paper and a gift box.  I drew the feather shape and then traced it on the paper I liked, then cut it out.  I glued it to plain white paper so it would have the white edge, of course then I cut that out.  A lot of cutting but perfect for a night in front of a good movie. I cut a donut shape out of a cardboard gift box then hot glues the paper feathers down. Voila!

This is probably my favorite.  I saw this sign on pinterest and decided to duplicate it.  First, I made the wood sign, stained, then paint and distress.  The words were just hand painted and then I sealed the sign with clear gloss spray paint.

Grey Ombre Dresser

We picked this dresser up in Seaside a long time ago.  It sat in the garage while I worked on other things and while the rain came down.  Needless to say, I wasn't in the mood to work in the rain.  One day, Jesse started work on this beast.  It has 8 drawers and the entire body needed to by sanded down as well.  Nothing ended up stained in the end, the wood just wasn't very nice, but the whole thing was scratched up and needed a sanding.  So many ideas happened before the dresser looked like this, but I like how it turned out.  It really isn't my style so we will be selling this one but I do like it!!!  The image transfer was a fun adventure, I think I learned a few tricks for the next time.

All colors were custom mixed.  All were sealed with Minwax Finishing Paste.

Just Peachy

We found this lovely buffet for free a few weeks ago.  The legs were broken off on both sides but the front detail remained.  We were going to make some new legs to replace the broken ones but we just took everything off instead.  We replaced them with some 4 x 4 blocks and called it good.  I have wanted to paint something peach for a long time but I never spotted the color I was dreaming of.  So, I mixed it up myself.  It used to have doors too but we like the open space to put the kids shoes.  We need some cute baskets that fit in the space but I haven't seen any I like yet.

The color is a custom mix.  The blue is Sherwin Williams Gulf Stream. The piece is sealed with Minwax Finishing Paste.

About Me

My photo
Growing up we never realized that we could make or change our furniture. Now that we are old and grown..ha..we realized that you can do anything you want to do. We like finding an old battered piece of furniture and seeing what we can make of it. We find joy in the journey and love seeing our pieces go to someone who loves them. Our house is slowly changing to whatever we want it to be and we are loving seeing the transformation.
